Combine Results

Hey everybody, it's been a while since my last post, but a lot has happened in the college football world! My main topic today will be on the results of the NFL Combine that took place last week. I'll obviously go over how my Huskers did, and then some players who I think did the best and possibly raised their draft stock.
Let's start off with the fun stuff, the Huskers sent three players to the NFL Combine, Kenny Bell, Randy Gregory, and Ameer Abdullah. All three performed very well, especially Ameer who was regarded as one of the best performers overall according to the Wall Street Journal. Ameer finished as the top performer in 4 of the 7 drills and was in the top 10 of 6 of the 7. The only event that Ameer did not finish in the top 10 was the 40 yard dash; he finished 12th with a 4.6. He had 24 reps on bench, a 42.5 inch vertical, 130 inch broad jump, and was the top performer in both the 3 cone drill and the 20 yard shuttle. Obviously a very impressive performance from Ameer, however, Kenny and Randy turned some heads as well. Kenny was 7th in the 40 yard dash for WR's with a 4.42, and was 3rd in both the vertical and the 3 cone drill. A lot of scouts are concerned with his size and strength, but after watching him for four years, I know that Kenny is a very physical Wideout and loves blocking just as much as he does catching touchdowns, if not more! Gregory was the final Husker to perform at the Combine. He performed pretty well, finishing 4th in the broad jump with a 125 inch jump, and 11th in the 40 yard dash with a 4.64. Lots of scouts are considering Gregory as more of a Linebacker type.
Now I'll give my thoughts on some other players who I thought performed very well. Kevin White out of West Virginia absolutely destroyed all the rumors about his speed with the 4.35 he ran in the 40, and Chris Conley out of Georgia definitely improved his stock with his performance. Trae Waynes out of Michigan State definitely lived up to expectations posting a 4.31 40 time. However, CB Byron Jones out of UConn stole the show with his Combine best, record setting broad jump of 147 inches! He even got looks from the U.S. Olympic team for that.
This year's NFL Combine was very impressive, and saw a number of prospects potentially raise their draft stock. We'll have to see how their Pro-days go, and then wait until April to see who raised their stock enough to get their name called earlier. My next post will be for my JOMC 101 class, and probably won't have much to do with football, but it will be funny! Also, my tryouts went well, they were a lot of fun, and I'm excited to see what happens. I also want to send a quick shout-out to my friend Kaiwan Culmer who placed 6th at the BIG 10 Indoor Track Championships in the Triple Jump. He helped the Men's team win the Indoor BIG 10 Championship for the Huskers! Until next time! GO BIG RED!
